(U2 - Stay, Zooropa)

Stay foi desde logo o meu tema favorito do álbum Zooropa. Um álbum controverso (como grande parte dos álbuns dos U2, banda que já é conhecida por conseguir inovar e criar tendências musicais distintas, sem perder a sua coerência enquanto banda... digo eu...). Provavelmente Zooropa foi controverso, porque quebrou a irreverência de Achtung Baby com um toque mais electrónico e menos frenético; que por sua vez havia dado uma pedrada no charco no som mais americanizado e comercial de Joshua Tree e Rattle & Hum... e talvez estes dois tenham sido os únicos álbuns não irreverentes dos U2. Boy, War e October são irreverentes na originalidade de um rock ingénuo. A primeira grande cartada de irreverência, e maior de todas, é The Unforgetable Fire, que caracteriza ainda hoje o som da banda: o som é original, mas torna-se consistente e assume-se maduro passados 25 anos.

Voltando a Achtung Baby, a verdade é que a banda continuou a inovar e a criar novas sonoridades álbum após álbum ao mesmo ritmo (talvez tenha acalmado ligeiramente em All That You Can't Leave Behind, ou mesmo em No Line On The Horizon).

E voltando a Stay, se o tema original é fantástico, mais fantástica é a re-criação do tema de Craig Armstrong, onde manteve apenas a voz de Bono.

Mas as tournées dos U2 são sempre inovadoras e Stay, surge em 2001 num formato acústico, que lhe fica a matar.

Entre esta versão e a de Craig Armstrong... prefiro a última, sem grandes hesitações. Digamos que põe o meu coração a palpitar com mais intensidade e mais depressa... e até me faz transpirar ligeiramente...

Fico curioso para conhecer o novo formato do tema na 360º Tour, que vou assistir em Outubro de 2010. Só vos digo, que depois de ver as primeiras imagens dos concertos no site dos U2, ia assitir ao espectáculo nem que fosse surdo!
